Under the direction of the Supply Chain Manager, the Supply Chain Engineer recommends sources of supply based on quality, reliability, and urgency of need. The SC Engineer will lead cross functional teams and program launches to ensure continuity of supply, consistency of quality and competitive pricing. In addition, the SC Engineer will be working with the Global Supply Chain team to maintain overall company cost saving activities. The SC Engineer will be primarily responsible for driving resourcing and continuous improvement in supply chain, while ensuring continuity of supply, consistency of quality and competitive pricing. The SC Engineer will have interaction and lead international sourcing within Flowserve sites. This will involve international travel to suppliers and Flowserve sites. Through proper supplier selection and performance evaluation, the SC Engineer mitigates risk within the supply chain to prevent any interruption in Operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITES
Identifies cost savings opportunities to continually reduce overall material cost.
Prepares requests for quotation, negotiates with suppliers, and awards contracts based on price, quality and delivery.
Evaluates current make or buy parts and assemblies for resourcing to lower cost and improved quality sources.
Evaluates product line components for effective sourcing related to families of products or parts.
Serves as the liaison to Product Development and Applications Engineering to identify specific requirements to submit for quotation for new product introductions and to resolve material or process issues on existing products.
Initiates and implements continuous process improvement activities designed to optimize process efficiency, reduce costs and lead-times by working closely with suppliers and across organizational boundaries.
Evaluates current suppliers’ ability to support continued growth in operations, recommending courses of action to mitigate risk.
Develops contingency plans to prevent disruptions in operations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Bachelor's degree (Business, Supply Chain or Engineering preferred).
Five to ten years of experience in negotiations, formulating contracts, locating sources of supply, and supporting manufacturing supply chain.
Strong working knowledge in at least two of the following areas: castings, machining etc..
Good communicator and team member.
High degree of initiative and ownership.
Strong organizational, negotiation, and analytical problem solving skills.
Must be able to spend up to two hours per day in the assigned manufacturing areas.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE, BUT NOT REQUIRED
Project management experience
Experience with international sourcing
Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and tools
Experience in a discrete and/or job shop manufacturing environment
